6 Days / 5 Nights at Capybara Eco Lodge


Day 1 – Into the Wild Amazon

9:00 AM – Pick-up from your hotel in Iquitos. Travel by private car (approx. 1.5 hrs) to San Joaquín de Omaguas, a jungle village on the edge of the protected area.
11:30 AM – Board a motorized boat for a 2-hour ride through winding rivers into the heart of the rainforest. Look out for capybaras, pink river dolphins, iguanas, and vibrant macaws soaring overhead.
12:30 PM – Arrival at Capybara Eco Lodge. Welcome drink and orientation by your guide.
1:00 PM – Lunch featuring regional Amazonian cuisine.
3:00 PM – Wildlife Tracking Hike: Explore nearby trails and begin spotting monkeys like squirrel monkeys, tamarins, and howlers. With extreme luck, guests have even glimpsed a jaguar crossing a riverbank trail.
7:00 PM – Dinner.
8:00 PM – Night Walk: Discover nocturnal life  frogs, tarantulas, glowing worms, and the calls of night monkeys.


Day 2 – Full Jungle Immersion

6:00 AM – Sunrise Birdwatching by Canoe: Glide silently through streams to spot macaws, toucans, hoatzins, and maybe capybaras at the riverbanks.
8:00 AM – Breakfast.
9:00 AM – Deep Rainforest Hike & Primate Tracking: Venture into the reserve’s interior. Search for 16+ monkey species, including red howlers, pygmy marmosets, and sakis. Learn survival skills and track subtle signs of jaguars.
1:00 PM – Lunch.
3:30 PM – River Safari to Oxbow Lake: Navigate through narrow channels to see pink dolphins, sloths, caimans, and river birds. Binoculars ready for macaws, kingfishers, and possibly an anaconda.
7:00 PM – Dinner.
8:00 PM – Optional night canoe ride or relax under the stars.


Day 3 – Deeper Amazon Exploration

8:00 AM – Breakfast.
9:00 AM – Morning River Expedition: Travel deeper into the reserve to explore hidden jungle creeks and remote oxbow lakes. High chances to spot macaws, capybaras, monkeys, and possibly jaguar tracks or sightings of giant otters and sloths.
1:00 PM – Return to the lodge for lunch 
3:30 PM – Optional jungle walk or canoe ride to discover more wildlife during golden hour.
7:00 PM – Dinner.
8:00 PM – Optional night paddle or stargazing from the dock.


Day 4 – Full-Day Jungle Exploration & Camping

6:30 AM – Breakfast.
7:30 AM – Full-Day Excursion: Head deep into the remote zones of the reserve, navigating wild rivers and creeks.

  • Piranha fishing (catch & release) at a secluded oxbow lake.

  • Swimming in safe river spots, approved by your guide.

  • Picnic lunch in the wild, prepared by your team.
    4:30 PM – Arrive at a secluded jungle campsite. Set up tents and enjoy the pristine wilderness.
    7:00 PM – Campfire dinner under the stars.
    8:00 PM – Night hike to hear the calls of nocturnal creatures and maybe spot night monkeys or owls.

Day 5 – Sloth & Red Uakari Quest

6:00 AM – Wake up with the jungle’s dawn chorus. Breakfast at camp.
7:00 AM – Deep Jungle Exploration: Venture into areas known for the elusive three-toed sloth and the rare red Uakari monkey (found only in select flooded forests).

  • Learn about their behaviors and habitats.

  • Spot other wildlife, including macaws, tamarins, and river otters.
    12:30 PM – Picnic lunch on a riverbank or in the shade of the jungle.
    3:30 PM – Return by boat to Capybara Eco Lodge for a well-deserved rest.
    7:00 PM – Dinner.

Day 6 – Final Encounters & Return

6:30 AM – Morning Wildlife Walk: Visit a frog-rich zone and search for more monkeys, giant insects, or rare sightings like tapirs or even a jaguar.

9:00 AM – Visit to a local community conservation project and support local artisans.
12:00 PM – Lunch.
1:00 PM – Begin return journey by boat to San Joaquín de Omaguas.
