This area is home to over 200 bird species, nine primate species, and an array of incredible wildlife like pink dolphins, giant otters, and more.

Led by local Kukama, Yagua, and Ashuar guides, you will immerse yourself in nature while supporting sustainable tourism. Activities include jungle hikes, birdwatching, primate registration, and nighttime excursions to experience the rainforest’s nocturnal life. The Yarapa River also plays a crucial role in local indigenous culture, as the Kukama people have lived in harmony with this environment for millennia. The program emphasizes community engagement, with a focus on the sustainable use of natural resources and improving the livelihoods of local inhabitants.

The Yarapa Communal Reserve, managed by the Kukama community, is dedicated to preserving the region’s unique ecosystems and promoting sustainable development through active community participation. Visitors will have the chance to observe some of the region’s rarest creatures, including red Uakari monkeys, Squirrel monkeys, Howler monkeys, and the elusive Zebra monkey pygmaea (Pygmy marmoset), while learning about the rich tradition of local medicinal plants.
